About Arenal Volcano National Park
The Arenal Volcano National Park is very popular for birders, as most of the 850 species identified in Costa Rica can be found within the park’s borders. At the Park is possible find one of the country’s most beautiful birds, the resplendent quetzal which is in danger of extinction. Also there are many animal species living within the park like white-faced capuchin monkeys, jaguar, deer, coati, and snakes like the fer-de-lance and parrot snake.
Arenal Park has a very significant number of plants, including orchids, heliconias, ferns, laurel, cirri, palms, bromeliads and others. Arenal Volcano is visited by thousands of tourists from around the world who seek accommodation, enjoy the hot springs and restaurants with strategic points to observe the volcano, or simply observe the abundant flora and fauna that inhabit the National Park. The Lake is an artificial reservoir Formed in 1979 and it is located near the Arenal Volcano and the Monteverde Cloud Forest and it is the largest lake in Costa Rica. It is approximately 30 km long and 5 km Nearly at its widest point, with an area of 85 square kilometers. Its depth varies Between 29 and 62 meters, depending on the season.
